Mining & Construction
“The problem with mining is that there is a great deal more to it than digging dirty great holes in the ground.”
Bill Duchatel
ex Pancontinental Mining

Mining
Bill Duchatel’s comment very accurately sums up the issues in mining and construction, and accordingly First IR’s role has often been very different from its usual one. First IR has worked for a range of mining and indeed mineral companies, from the former Pancontinental to Queensland Nickel, Australia Magnesia and Queensland Magnesia, to gold miners and nickel miners and processors right across Australia, and played a significant role in the NSW coal industry.
The clear issue for companies getting involved in this area is that there are a lot of “sharp operators“ around who have great capacity to muddy the waters and to leave a situation in which it is easy for the doubtful operators to prosper at the expense of the genuine investors and their workforces.
First IR has real experience in assuring the proprietors that their capital expenditure for labour achieves maximum efficiency. First IR works well and closely with the rest of the project team to assure the group meets their objectives.
Construction
First IR’s experience in the construction industry is predominantly with the second and third tier operators, those companies who pick up specific contracts for specific sites. As a general rule, our clients work across the divides in construction, whether it is civil construction or residential.
We assist them in negotiating their way through what can be a very robust industry in terms of negotiations and enforcement of rights. Our dual IR/OHS expertise assists our clients in responding appropriately whenever they are challenged to ensure that the right response is always given.
